Immunisation Coordination services:
Canterbury Immunisation provides Immunisation Coordination services which includes Cold Chain Accreditation assessment and Clinical Asessments for Authorised Vaccinators to Rural General Practice teams, in the Waimakariri, Hurunui, Kaiakoura,Ashburton and Banks Peninsula Districts (except Lyttleton), as contracted by the CDHB, along with all other Immunisation Providers in the Canterbury region that are not General Practice (or aligned with a PHO). This includes non-affiliated General Practices, Canterbury Hospitals and DHB sites, Community Pharmacies, Lead Maternity Carers, Outreach Immunisation support, Well child providers, Private Hospitals, Occupational Health providers, correctional facilities and defence force facilities within the Canterbury region. Immunisation Coordinators assist with the acheivement of health goals which the Ministry of Health set for all District Health Boards to improve the health of the population by :* improving the health and wellbeing of all children/tamariki in New Zealand by assisting immunisation providers to increase and maintain scheduled vaccine coverage rates and to assist with strategies aimed at maintaining or improving these levels in the future.*improving the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders by assisting immunisation providers to increase vaccine coverage rates for influenza vaccine, and other vaccines in the event of epidemics or pandemics or catchup campaigns.*assisting DHB's to meet population health targets for immunisation coverage and child health. This will include working with the DHB and Primary Health Organisations (PHO's) to ensure PHO's are upskilled to meet their immunisation coverage targets.*undertaking Cold Chain Accreditation assessments for immunisaton providers to ensure that all vaccines are stored according to the MOH National Standards for Vaccine Storage and Transportation, and providing support/ expert guidance on Cold Chain Management*ensuring vaccinators and the public (alongside Immunisation Advisory Council, IMAC) are provided with up to date, evidence based information to assist them in decision making in regard to immunisation services and immunisation of children, young people and adults.*undertaking Clinical Assessments for Registered Nurses and Pharmacists to become Authorised Vaccinators
Outreach Immunisation services:
The National Immunisation Programme is a priority identified in the New Zealand Health strategy aimed at improving population health by reducing the impact of vaccine-preventable disease. The overall aim of our outreach immunisation service is to improve immunisation coverage with the recommended national schedule, in order to reach the national targets (95% coverage in children)* the main responsibility of Outreach Immunisation Services is to reduce the prevalence and impact of vaccine preventable disease in New Zealand through the delivery of vaccine services to families whose children have missed vaccination events as defined by the Childhood Immunisation Schedule.*Outreach Immunisation services seek to reduce inequalities by providing those parents and children with increased access to immunisation and improved links to primary health care.
